Island of Elba

THE BEACHES

In Pomonte there are three pebble beaches and a comfortable reef:
- L'Ogliera is reachable from the main street along the coast, walking on a short path in the scrub, but also from the seafront in the village, passing though a short stretch through the sea water (less than 1 m. deep);
- The Spiaggia del Relitto (The Shipwreck Beach) is 300 meters far from Villa Mare apartments; here it's possible to rent beach umbrellas and chairs or to hire canoes and pedalos. Just around 50 meters from the beach lies the wreck of a merchant ship dipped in the seventies and almost surfacing, that's obviously a destination of either professional or amateurs divers;

- Le Scalette is 30 meters far from Villa Mare apartments and it's also the closest one to the centre of the village.

In Pomonte there are also nice rocks and reef spots, like Il Calello, where one time the ships were freighted with granite from the mountains or wine produced in local vineyards. In addition to being a paradise for snorkelling, part of it is considered a natural playground where you can dive into crystal clear waters. The Calello is connected with a small footbridge over the granite to Cala Maestrale, a stupendous inlet hidden from the summer bustle.

Besides these spots which are the closest to the village and the easiest to reach, not so far there are a few wonderful nooks and creeks with lovely isolated beaches, reachable swimming or navigating or through some paths in the scrub from the coastline street: Le Rosse, Le Tombe, Punta Nera.

Finally, a few kilometers away, you can reach the beaches of Cavoli, Fetovaia and Seccheto, Sant'Andrea, famous for their beauty and grainy sand.
